broke down, for a white person who’s also a member of my broader community, what the term POC, in a nutshell, means to me… based on my own interpretation and experiences and stuff i’ve read. and… they learned something. and i think they listened with empathy!

YAY! POC love is self-love! i will not define and describe myself using words that point out what i am not. i am not a minority, collectively people of colour are not outnumbered. together we are stronger!

[edit: one more thing! i was not drained after. it was a useful question that helped me get clearer on why i appreciate and use the term so often. THAT i think is the hopeful part… the other person didn’t try and start shit, they were legitimately curious… not trying to create a trap and didn’t get weird after! i said what i wanted to say and wasn’t challenged. my authentic truth wasn’t challenged!!]
